Day Of The Gun

Day Of The Gun - About The Film

Montana, 1890s -
As the Montana town of Single Tree celebrates its Silver Jubilee, the surrounding ranchers find themselves trying to solve the mystery of who or what is responsible for the mysterious disappearance of their cattle.  It seems that the ranchers’ cattle, often only a few at a time, just seem to evaporate into thin air. Hardest hit is prosperous Big Sky Ranch owner Cyrus McCall, one of Single Tree’s founding fathers-- and not the kind of man to let anyone take advantage of him. He’s convinced that his strays and unbranded calves are ending up on widow Maggie Carter’s property.  Although Cyrus isn’t convinced she’s a thief, he tells the Cattleman’s Association that he plans to erect a fence to keep his cattle from “wandering off.”  Angry at the thought of having barbed wire strung near her property, Maggie gets her son Ned to warn his once close friend young Cy McCall (Cyrus’s son) that the fence will surely start a range war between the McCalls and the Carters. Complicating matters is the fact that young Cy is attracted to Maggie Carter’s daughter Kate.

The fence goes up-and thus the range war begins. Through her son Ned, Maggie brings the murderous Caleb Bateman into the fray. And it isn’t long before all hell breaks loose.
